Match Report: Old Wulfs vs Stars FC – Cup Quarter Final

Old Wulfs knew coming into the quarter-final that this would be a tough test against a strong Starz FC side.

The game didn’t start well for Old Wulfs. In the 3rd minute, a misplaced pass was punished by Stars, who took an early lead to make it 1–0. Despite the setback, Old Wulfs responded well and began to take control of the game, creating several good chances.

After 15 minutes, Sam was forced off following a bad tackle that left him with a gash on his leg. Old Wulfs continued to push forward, with Olalekan coming agonisingly close on a number of occasions. He even had a goal disallowed in what was a controversial decision. Despite being the better side for large periods, Old Wulfs went into the break trailing 1–0.

At half-time, Phil encouraged the lads to keep pushing, reminding them they were still very much in the game and creating the better chances.

The second half started brightly, with both teams going at it. However, in the 45th minute, Starz doubled their lead to make it 2–0. Old Wulfs continued to give everything, but misfortune struck again in the 50th minute when keeper Harry suffered a nasty head injury following a challenge. He was forced off and taken to hospital, everyone at Old Wulfs wishes him a speedy recovery.

Olly stepped up bravely and went in goal, but Stars were awarded a penalty in the 55th minute, which they converted to make it 3–0. Things went from bad to worse as Olalekan and Kyle were both forced off with injuries.

In the 60th minute, Starz added a fourth with a free kick that lobbed Olly, unlucky on the day. A fifth goal followed in the 70th minute.

Old Wulfs never stopped battling. Oscar was moved out of centre-back and pushed up front - Harry Maguire style and even managed to get a chance late on.

It wasn’t our day, with injuries and setbacks taking their toll, but full credit to the lads who kept fighting and showed real warrior spirit throughout.

We go again next weekend.
