Today, we faced off against Wombourne Allstars, who had previously defeated us 4-0 in our last match. Old Wulfs were missing some players, leaving us with just one substitute.
As the game kicked off, Old Wulfs started strong, battling uphill against the wind. It turned out to be a bit of a messy game, with both teams struggling to control the ball. However, in the 19th minute, Wombourne took advantage of a lapse in our defence and scored, making it 1-0.
In the 25th minute, Wombourne struck again, bringing the score to 2-0. Old Wulfs were sitting too deep, giving Wombourne too much time on the ball. From that point on, the game became quite scrappy, with Old Wulfs just clearing the ball aimlessly.
At halftime, the score was 2-0. Phil and Greg had a chat with the team, encouraging them to focus on quick one-two passes and to apply more pressure on Wombourne. We needed to pick up the pace.
The second half began positively for Old Wulfs, as Wombourne found themselves pinned back in their own half. We were dominating the play, and it felt like a goal was imminent! In the 54th minute, Kyle sent a pass to Harry G, who managed to nudge the ball into the net, making it 2-1.
The pressure we applied on Wombourne was incredible, with beautiful one-two passes flowing. In the 67th minute, Old Wulfs earned a penalty, but unfortunately, Josh missed. However, the ball rebounded, and Kyle was there to smash it home, levelling the score at 2-2! Could we snatch a win?
The last three minutes were incredibly tense, with Old Wulfs relentlessly attacking Wombourne's goal. Sadly, we couldn't find the back of the net. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. Old Wulfs, you made us proud today! You fought hard and never gave up, and it was unfortunate not to walk away with all three points.
