Today, we went up against Withymoor Colts South, eager to avenge our earlier defeat to them. The match began on a pitch that could only be described as a meadow! Old Wulfs quickly took control in the centre, and in the 8th minute, a mistake from Withymoor allowed the ball to land at Josh's feet. He skillfully lobbed the keeper from the middle of the field, putting us ahead 1-0.
However, in the 11th minute, Withymoor took a shot that seemed like an easy save for Harry. Unfortunately, it hit a grass mound and soared over his dive, levelling the score at 1-1. This setback seemed to deflate Old Wulfs, and it took us five minutes to regain our momentum. We battled hard all over the pitch but struggled to find our rhythm in front of goal.
In the 27th minute, Withymoor scored again. Old Wulfs were unlucky as we failed to clear the ball, allowing Withymoor to slot it home. The halftime score was 1-2. Phil encouraged the team to focus on playing the ball on the ground rather than attempting long balls, as the small pitch wasn’t suited for that strategy.
The second half began with Old Wulfs playing better, but we still struggled to maintain possession and execute our passing game. In the 57th minute, we were caught on a counterattack, and Withymoor extended their lead to 3-1. Just eight minutes later, it happened again, making it 4-1. We had our chances but just couldn’t find the back of the net.
In the final minute, Withymoor earned a free kick. They took a shot, and Harry was unfortunate not to save it, as the ball slipped into his own net, bringing the final score to 5-1. Old Wulfs were unlucky today; the pitch conditions didn’t help, but we need to focus on our passing game and be more clinical in front of goal.
