Today, we went up against Wordsley Wasps, a team we had previously defeated 2-1. However, this time we were short on players and had no substitutes available.
Old Wulfs started the match, with a few players nursing injuries, leading to a chaotic game. In the 9th minute, Wordsley found the back of the net. Things didn’t improve much, as just four minutes later, they scored again with a stunning volley from outside the box, making it 2-0. The game continued to be disorganised, and in the 21st minute, Wordsley struck again, extending their lead to 3-0.
It was time for Old Wulfs to rally, and they did just that. In the 35th minute, Josh scored a spectacular volley from outside the area, bringing the score to 3-1.
At halftime, Phil encouraged the team to focus on passing and for the midfielders to support the defence, as they often found themselves outnumbered 6 to 4.
The second half began, and Old Wulfs came out with renewed energy. In the 46th minute, they earned a free kick just outside the box, and Josh expertly curled it over the wall and into the net, narrowing the score to 3-2.
Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last long. Wordsley countered quickly, and with the midfield unable to recover, they scored again, making it 4-2.
Old Wulfs dominated the play, creating several chances as Wordsley seemed to lose their composure. In the 62nd minute, the ball fell to Josh, who maneuvered past two defenders before setting up Kyle for a fantastic volley into the net.
With just eight minutes remaining, Old Wulfs continued to press, but Wordsley was determined to defend their lead. Jack came close with a header, and there were a few other opportunities, but luck was not on our side today.
Although this season has been challenging, the team’s spirit remains strong, and we are proud of their effort, considering we only had 11 players and were dealing with injuries.
