Today kicked off the season with our first match against Kewford Eagles West, a team we had a solid double header against last year. Old Wulfs got off to a decent start, placing Josh at the back to counter Kewford’s speedy striker. But in the 12th minute, Kewford slipped one through yand scored, making it 1-0. Just two minutes later, Old Wulfs struggled to find their rhythm and conceded again, now trailing 2-0.
What could Old Wulfs do?
They rallied and started to create chances, putting Kewford under pressure. In the 19th minute, Ethan delivered a fantastic pass to Kyle, who found the back of the net! It was 2-1, and Old Wulfs were dominating, but they just couldn’t finish. Kewford then played a long ball to the right, and Oscar fouled their striker in the box—definitely not what Old Wulfs needed. The Kewford striker stepped up and slotted it down the middle, making it 3-1.
Right before halftime, a mix-up during a goal kick allowed Kewford to score again, ending the half at 4-1. Old Wulfs were feeling down, but they didn’t deserve that scoreline!
During the break, Phil tried to lift the spirits, reminding everyone that they needed to step up in the midfield and that they were playing better than the score suggested.
As the second half began, Kewford came out strong, and Old Wulfs seemed to still be in a funk. Kewford quickly scored two more goals, pushing the score to 6-1. Things didn’t improve; in the 52nd minute, Kewford netted another one, making it 7-1. Old Wulfs kept pushing but just couldn’t find their footing, and Kewford scored again, bringing it to 8-1.
In the final minute, Harvey set up Josh just outside the box, and he blasted it into the roof of the net for 8-2.
Final score: 8-2. Kewford earned their win today; they were just sharper in front of goal. But we’ll bounce back next week and show what Old Wulfs are really made of!
