Today, we faced off against Gornal Athletic, a team positioned similarly to us in the league. Unfortunately, we were short a few players and only had two substitutes available.
The match got off to a rough start for Old Wulfs, with some poor passing, and in the 7th minute, a mistake on our part allowed Gornal to score. After that, Old Wulfs created a few opportunities.
In the 17th minute, we earned a free kick on the left side. Dan stepped up and delivered a stunning shot straight into the top corner—what a goal! The score was now 1-1.
However, things didn’t improve for Old Wulfs as the game intensified with aggressive tackles. In the 24th minute, Gornal capitalised on our defensive lapses and scored again, making it 2-1.
At halftime, Greg and Huw spoke to the team about staying calm, avoiding unnecessary confrontations, and focusing on maintaining possession and making quality passes instead of just kicking the ball aimlessly.
The second half began, but it didn’t start well for Old Wulfs. Just ten minutes in, Gornal scored on a counter-attack, extending their lead to 3-1. After that, Old Wulfs really stepped up their game, but the question remained: was it too late? We were unfortunate not to score several times, but in the 68th minute, Harry G managed to control the ball and fired it into the net, bringing the score to 3-2.
With ten minutes of stoppage time added, Old Wulfs applied pressure on Gornal, who struggled to escape their own half. We had several chances, but the ball just wouldn’t find the back of the net.
In the end, we lost 3-2, and while it’s disappointing not to have taken something from this match, we’ll keep our heads held high. It hasn’t been our season, but we’ll keep pushing forward, Old Wulfs!
