We went up against Bilbrook Juniors South Division 1 in the league Cup. We anticipated a tough match since they play two divisions higher, and Old Wulfs hadn’t secured a win this season.
The game started off well for Old Wulfs, but we faltered in the 6th minute, allowing Bilbrook to score and take a 1-0 lead. The next 15 minutes were challenging as we conceded three more goals, bringing the score to 4-0, and our goalkeeper Harry suffered an injury. Olly, our midfielder, bravely stepped in to help out!
Although Old Wulfs had opportunities, Bilbrook was more clinical in front of goal. The last 10 minutes of the first half were tough, with Old Wulfs conceding another 3 goals, ending the half at 7-0. Phil gathered the team and pointed out that while we were playing well, we were showing too much respect to Bilbrook. He encouraged them to go out in the second half and aim to win that half, as the overall game was already decided.
Feeling ready to return, Harry jumped back into goal for the second half. Old Wulfs came out looking like a different team, challenging for every ball. Bilbrook managed to score first against the run of play, but the spirits of Old Wulfs remained high! In the 55th minute, Logan, our center back, made a brilliant run from the edge of our box all the way down the pitch and hit the post. The ball rebounded to Kyle, who was fouled, resulting in a penalty! Kyle confidently converted it in the 56th minute!
Just 3 minutes later, Logan was at it again, delivering a beautiful pass to Olly, who smashed it home. The team really responded to Phil’s challenge at halftime. Old Wulfs fought hard across the pitch, but unfortunately, we conceded two more goals in the last 10 minutes, ending the second half with a score of 3-2 in favor of Bilbrook. Old Wulfs, you made us proud in that second half—let’s carry that momentum into next week’s game!
