Today, we faced off against Wombourne Allstars, still in search of our first victory. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day.
In the first half, Old Wulfs controlled the game, creating several opportunities but failing to convert. Dan even hit the post! We were quite unlucky not to be ahead at halftime, as Wombourne only managed three chances, with Harry making three excellent saves. The score at halftime was 0-0.
Phil had a chat with the team during the break, emphasising the need to capitalise on our chances and put more pressure on the Wombourne goalkeeper.
The second half began with Wombourne applying more pressure on Old Wulfs, but we still created chances. Thirteen minutes in, we conceded a free kick, and Wombourne scored with a looping shot over Harry. Despite this setback, we remained hopeful as we seemed to be the stronger side. However, just a minute later, we were caught off guard and conceded again, making it 2-0 to Wombourne.
It was an uphill battle from there. Old Wulfs fought hard but struggled to find the finishing touch. The more we pushed forward, the more vulnerable we became at the back. In the final ten minutes, Wombourne scored two more goals, just as Old Wulfs were starting to look threatening. Credit to Wombourne; they were simply more clinical than us today.
Final score 4-0
Next week, we have a tough match against Kidderminster Lions, who are currently at the top of the league.
